After reading this book, I found a few scenes that became interesting to me. One of these scenes is chapter six. It begins on page 29 and ends on 33. In this scene it is Leo and her Auntie May gambling at a casino. Leo explains how she isn’t very fond of her aunt and how she used to dread going to her house on Sunday mornings. Her aunt came off as being rude, sarcastic and somewhat heartless. Leo goes on to explain her on page 30, “She didn’t look entirely real. It was as if she’d been put together in chunks- as if someone had stuffed meat into her dress, and the cloth was the only thing to keep her from falling apart.” They have a conversation about Bri as Auntie May is playing the slots. Then the sirens go off at two different machines and crowds run back and forth between the two. At the end of this chapter Fra Umberto comes to Leo and tells her “Come on, I’ll show you something you like better.”
If Apeiron were a real game/environment, it would probably be teaching players how to put up with people we don’t really get along with. And it shows different ways of dealing with this kind of situation. It would also be teaching them that everyone has a place in the world and you have to make the best of it. Also, don’t let other peoples’ judgments and stereotypes of you, bring you down.
During this scene Leo is very descriptive when she explains how the casino looks. “The decor was gaudy: plush red carpets on the floors, Ming vases stuffed with exotic arrangements of flowers….” She is also this way when describing her Auntie May’s appearance and demeanor. Leo just seems to be very laid back and not really caring what her Aunt is doing or saying to her. Leo just kind of lets everything roll off and not effect her in any way. Leo uses what Johnson’s idea of probing is when she is descriptive in telling the readers about the layout of the casino and how it looks.
I think that the analysis of the content is more dominant than the process. The content gives you a better idea of what this scene is about and tells more information. I feel that this tells the reader a lot more about the characters than the analysis of the process would.

I really liked the first quote you picked with the description of the aunt. It was very detailed and helped me visualize her. It was also effective when you mentioned that Fra Umberto offered to take her somewhere she’d like better than the casino. It showed how much of a getaway Apeiron really was.
